New year, new rumors about everything happening right now across a number of cinematic universes. One that's been attracting an especially large amount of attention is DC Studios' rebooted DCU continuity, which is properly kicking off this year with James Gunn's Superman after the animated series Creature Commandos soft-launched it in early December 2024. Of course, everyone is starting to wonder about its Batman and whether DC Studios might just 'recycle' Matt Reeves' critically acclaimed take on the character, but it may be time to let go of that idea.
]]>Right now Matt Reeves' own little corner of Gotham with Robert Pattinson's Batman is self-contained, but he "can't really" say anything about the caped crusader joining the DCU.
]]>With The Batman: Part 2 being quite a while away after another delay, director Matt Reeves has reassured everyone that production is still happening soon(ish).
]]>You're probably pretty familiar with Batman's origin story by now, so thankfully James Gunn has said there's no plans to show it in the new DCU.
]]>Turns out you'll be waiting even longer for The Batman: Part 2, as the film has caught another year long delay.
]]>The generous teaser trailer for Superman, written and directed by James Gunn, has finally arrived, and you can bet that everyone has strong opinions about it, good and bad. Here's a quick rundown of the current buzz online.
]]>The wait is finally over: Our first look at James Gunn's Superman, the first live-action entry of the rebooted DCU, has arrived.
]]>James Gunn's Superman is getting its first teaser trailer tomorrow, and ahead of that it's gotten its own little tease.
]]>We won't be getting the first trailer for James Gunn's Superman until later in the week, but he has at least shared the main theme.
]]>After Joker: Folie à Deux flopping terribly and HBO's The Penguin series making a splash, Warner Bros. and DC are rolling the dice again with another Batman villain-centric project. Get ready for a Clayface movie penned by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
]]>As part of an extensive chat with Josh Horowitz for his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn expressed some of his hopes for the DCU and also answered larger questions involving comic book adaptations in general. But one bit near the end really caught our attention, and it has to do with the possibility of bringing some Guardians of the Galaxy actors into this cinematic universe, including Dave Bautista as Bane.
]]>Even the most fervent of Marvel fans can agree that having to watch so much content feels like homework, and James Gunn is hoping to avoid that with the new DCU.
]]>As we wait for that first Superman trailer and the premiere of Creature Commandos on December 5, James Gunn's DC Studios is only ramping up its operations, and no one could've predicted this new live-action project in a million years: a Sgt. Rock flick directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Daniel Craig.
]]>Classic Batman villain Clayface is set to appear in the upcoming Creature Commandos, and you'll likely recognise his voice.
]]>The upcoming DCU reboot's first completely new live-action show Lanterns has made some good casting progress recently, and now James Gunn has confirmed when you can expect to watch it.
]]>The rumours are true: James Gunn's Superman film will feature Krypto the Superdog, and the reason why is honestly quite sweet.
]]>A lot of the new DCU's projects haven't had many updates in a while, but DC Studios co-head James Gunn wants you to know that doesn't mean they've been cancelled.
]]>HBO and DC Studios' high-profile Lanterns series is rapidly heating up and has just found its John Stewart in Rebel Ridge's Aaron Pierre after a very long search for the perfect actor to go with Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan.
]]>Things will certainly be different in the DCU under James Gunn, as the latest project to be announced is a mixed-media film about two different Robins.
]]>DC is ramping up its casting process a bit for its new cinematic universe, with progress being made on both its Green Lanterns series and Supergirl.
]]>James Gunn's Superman film is still mostly being kept under wraps, but it seems like a certain super pup will be making an appearance somewhere along the line.
]]>Matt Reeves felt that The Penguin's real name, Oswald Cobblepot, was just a bit too silly, so he asked DC if he could change it.
The Penguin's civilian name has been the very extra Oswald Cobblepot for a good number of decades now, but in something as serious as 2022's The Batman, a name like that might seem a little out of place (though we can of course suspend our sense of disbelief at a man dressed up in bat-themed military gear). So, the character's name was changed to Oswald Cobb, or Oz Cobb, which definitely doesn't sound silly at all, and in a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via ComicBookMovie.com), producer Dylan Clark offered a bit of context as to why that decision was made.
"They never got around to changing [The Penguin's] name in the comics like they did with the Riddler, going from Edward Nigma to Edward Nashton, from an unreal name to a real name," Clark said. "By doing that they grounded the character.
]]>Sorry to those of you that were excited by the prospect of Josh Brolin as Hal Jordan, but the actor has apparently decided against starring in the Green Lanterns series.
]]>The Batman was neither extremely grounded nor a colorful comic book take on the (DC) world's greatest detective. As a direct answer to both Christopher Nolan's notable trilogy and Zack Snyder's half-baked take on the character, Matt Reeves' own approach to Bruce Wayne and his vigilante persona was gritty and slightly stylized, but its dark feet were still firmly planted in reality. According to him, that won't change in the sequels.
]]>While it's not set in stone just yet, it's sounding like Josh Brolin has been offered a role in DC Studios' Green Lanterns show as Hal Jordan.
]]>Despite what you might have heard about a potential The Batman game, the man at the top of DC Studios has downplayed any such thing.
]]>Far too often, blockbusters fall flat because they've been over-tweaked or straight-up reassembled in post-production. While reshoots had always been a common part of the filmmaking process, they've now sort of become this 'crutch' for productions that hadn't figured out a concrete plan before heading into principal photography. More specifically, many comic book movies have been affected by this approach, yet James Gunn's efforts, both for Marvel and DC, haven't been hurt by it.
]]>More than two years after The Batman was released, The Penguin TV series finally has a concrete release date.
]]>The first trailer for Creature Commandos is here, and it looks like it will be a pretty good first step into DC's new cinematic universe.
]]>Uh oh, despite all the hype, Deadpool & Wolverine appears to be doing more or less just as badly with critics as DC's mess of a Flash movie.
]]>Some set photos from James Gunn's upcoming Superman film have been going around, but the director says you don't need to worry about spoilers.
]]>The Snyder Cut of Justice League never made its way to theatres, but Zack Snyder appears to be teasing that its time is finally coming.
]]>DC is moving forward with its Green Lantern series at HBO, locking the first season in for eight episodes.
]]>The wait for The Batman 2 is going to be a long one, especially after that last delay, but thankfully, fans of Matt Reeves' take on the iconic DC character and Gotham City will soon be able to watch a show centered on Colin Farrell's Penguin that will bridge the gap between the two Batman movies.
]]>Peacemaker season one was fantastic on all fronts, but its opening dance number, set to Wig Wam's 'Do Ya Wanna Taste It' (2010), was a memorable highlight. Now, we've learned that season 2 will feature a new one.
]]>Suicide Squad Isekai, the upcoming anime that promises to put Harley Quinn and co in an alternate fantasy universe, finally has a release date.
]]>The Lanterns TV series for Max that is set to be part of the rebooted DCU's first batch of movies and shows is still alive, and now DC Studios' creative overlord, James Gunn, has firmly confirmed the all-star group of writers that has cracked the story and the pilot episode.
]]>It appears that everyone has very strong feelings, positive or negative, about the Superman (2025) costume reveal that James Gunn finally shared a few days ago with David Corenswet in the role. The thing is... we've been here before, but everyone seems to have just forgotten about the announcements of old.
]]>Progress on DC Studios' Supergirl movie, which appears to be up next in the rebooted universe after James Gunn's Superman, is being made fast, and now we've learned that I, Tonya and Cruella director Craig Gillespie will be helming the long-awaited adaptation.
]]>We finally know what Lady Gaga sounds like as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie À Deux, and yeah, it sure does sound like her.
]]>Mortal Kombat 1's second guest character is almost here, and it's none other than Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad (2021) and the Max TV series of the same name, complete with John Cena's iconic voice.
]]>A writer and artist duo has shared some concept art showing their pitch for a Batman Beyond animated film, and yeah, I need this thing to get made.
]]>While most of the Joker: Folie à Deux images that've been released so far strongly suggest it's a musical of sorts, its cinematographer is now denying those claims.
]]>Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has found its Kryptonian cousin in House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock.
]]>As James Gunn's long-anticipated Superman: Legacy preps to shoot this spring, DC Studios has now begun the search for Supergirl well ahead of her solo movie even getting a director.
]]>The next iteration of the DC film universe is underway, and while most projects are staying behind, co-head of DC Studios James Gunn is making sure his Peacemaker show survives the jump.
]]>In what's generally been a rough year for huge franchises on the big screen, The Flash might still be the most resounding flop of them all.
]]>
